Here you can see a beautiful and simple roman style ceiling (so from one of the oldest parts of the abbey).

Detail of the arms of the abbey, which represents both Saint-Vincent and Saint-Laurent.

Huge door.

Famous room for its pillars. Its size is 25 m long and 9 m wide. There are 8 huge stained-leaded windows on each side and a huge chimney in each end of the room.
This room is currently used as the refectory of the high school. In the past, it used to be the resting room for the monks. It was the study room when Malko was a pupil there.

One of these chimneys.

This looks like the bottom of common stairs but it is of great interest and was even given the name of "Trinity stairs".

*
View from the top of these stairs (sorry, it is a little blurred).

And to understand why is was named "Trinity stairs", look at the next three photos!

God.

Son of God.
*
*
Sanctus Spirit.
*
On of these three at each floor in the stairs : God on first floor, Son of God on second floor and Sanctus Spirit on third floor.
All were really beautifully sculpted. I like a lot the way they sculpted God : very clever.

The "Trinity stairs" are between the two huge rooms (the pillar one and the ancient refectory).

Ceiling and windows of the other huge room.

Huge room, ancient refectory of the monks. Its size is 32 m long and 9 m wide. There is a huge religious paint on each end. There are windows only on one side. When Malko was still a pupil, there were wood pannels all along the walls, like in the next room I am going to show you. This room was at this time the refectory but is now the study room.

Small reception room. There used to be a huge mirror on top of the chimney.

Totally brilliant Sophie. More, More, More!!
ReplyDeleteHi Sophie,
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for taking us on a tour of the Abbey.
I loved visiting Le Mans with you and just thought how everything was so old and beautiful.
Loved it and I will always remember our lovely day, we spent with you and Malko.
